AN INTERNATIONAL MANUFACTURING COMPANY turned to Corporate Technologies for our expertise in optimizing service contracts and reducing IT expenses. The client had hundreds of servers running mission-critical applications, deployed in a widely distributed computing environment, with more than a dozen service contracts to satisfy internal and external SLAs and FDA regulations for data integrity. No methodology existed to track new contracts and they had no physical inventory of assets or service agreements in a dynamic environment that added servers weekly.

We evaluated the service coverage, taking inventory on a server-by-server basis, determining appropriate service levels, consolidating contracts to gain discounts, and co-terminating contracts to simplify management. Where support costs were excessive, we refreshed technology—replacing servers with newer, better-performing alternatives.

Reducing service contracts from 21 to 4, our client saved over $225,000 and lowered their management time from 200 hours/year to 2 hours/year. They now fully comply with FDA guidelines mandating application support.

A GROWING FULL-SERVICE ISP looked to Corporate Technologies to transition their IT infrastructure from outsourced to insourced, after our analysis of operating and capital costs, labor costs, and financing options showed that insourcing would more effective address.

We designed and implemented an entire IT infrastructure from scratch—including hardware, software, networks, and power/cooling subsystems. We then migrated a very large data set from an outside vendor to inside staff without data loss and tested the new solution before going live and disengaging the old.

Throughout the migration, Corporate Technologies served as our client’s “technology support umbrella.” The complex, cross-functional implementation required deep understanding of numerous UNIX servers, network infrastructure, enterprise backup, intrusion prevention security—plus multiple databases, operating systems, and application software. Our project management best practices assured seamless management of over a dozen vendors represented in the implementation.

Post migration, our client achieved full payback on capital costs in the first year and expects to realize 50% annual savings in operational costs in the forthcoming years.
